    Play and Learn

Welcome to Plainville's 2023 Summer Enrichment Academy Registration! The forms below should be completed by any parent/guardian who intends to send a child or children to this program. We are aiming for 60-70 students each week in order to make this self-sustaining program run.  Students may register for one, two, or three weekly sessions, and each session includes a 4-day week (Monday through Thursday), with 3 individual classes per day. Students must register for the full session (e.g. 8:30-12:00 each day); while students will have some choice in the individual classes that they attend each day, the program is designed to run on a weekly basis, not on a per-class basis.

The registration fee is $110 per student per week. You will receive an email confirmation along with payment information once your child(ren) has been accepted into the program. Parents/guardians are responsible for student drop off and pick up, as transportation is not provided. Individual registration forms must be completed for all students who are attending.

If you have questions, please contact  Jennifer Parson .   Registrations will be accepted until May 12th, and at that point, we will determine staffing levels based on registrations.

To register for the week(s) that your child/ren will be attending, please click on the link(s) below.  Note: Please complete one form per child.  Thank you.

    FULL STEAM AHEAD
    |Do you like to know how and why? At the beginning of each week, students will receive a STEAM question(s) and or challenge(s) to pursue.  Activities that are connected to the questions or challenges will be hands-on and engaging, allowing students to use critical thinking skills, to exercise their scientific reasoning skills, and to develop and test hypotheses.

    UP AND MOVE
We will be moving and grooving! Students will engage in a variety of movement activities designed to keep minds and bodies active! Walking, running, and dancing will be incorporated, with many games and activities designed to bring fun and fitness together.

    MATH MANIA
Put on your thinking caps! Students will become math detectives and problem solvers, tackling real world problems, solving  3-Act Tasks, and playing math games. This class is designed to encourage critical thinking, discussion, and confidence building.

    FIT, FAB, FUN
Let’s have some fitness fun! Students will participate in a number of fitness activities focusing on teamwork, sportsmanship, and physical activity. Whether students have played on a team before or if this is a new experience for them, these fitness activities will encourage movement, laughter, and the joy of working together!

    PLAY IT AGAIN
Board games, card games, and puzzles will provide students with the opportunity to challenge themselves and their peers, both through varied games and puzzles. Strategizing, problem solving, and being an overall good sport will  be emphasized as students enjoy playing new games, old favorites, and/or tackling puzzles.

    THE REST OF THE STORY
Students will listen to a read aloud that provides them access to knowledge, higher level thinking, and rich discussions. Following the story and group discussion, students will select from a number of activities, where they will create “the rest of the story.” This might include writing a new ending to the story, writing a sequel to the story, experimenting with different genres of writing, participating in a craft or activity that has a connection to the story, and more! There will be something for everyone!

    READER’S THEATER
As a group, Reader’s Theatre participants will adapt and/or develop their own script based on a text that is shared on the first day of class.. Each student will write and/or learn lines, and they will create basic props for their performance.Students will practice reading with fluency and expression. Students will also learn some basics of theater, such as voice projection, addressing audience members, using facial expressions and body language to convey meaning, and working as part of a team.  Family members will be invited to come and watch the “performance” that we have worked on all week!

SmART SCIENCE will engage students in using science in creative ways. This could include basic chromatography, slime, painting with Ooblek, paper marbling, etc.

    WRITERS CLUB
Calling all writers! Writers club will explore various types of writing using weekly themes as our starting point. Students will be exposed to a variety of texts and media to build their knowledge, and they will have the opportunity to experiment with their writer’s voice, developing written pieces using multiple genres, such as opinion, informational, fiction, poetry, and more.

    YOGA FOR YOU
